I mainly wanted it to grab my saves from my backwards compatible PS3 to transfer them to memory cards (my ps3 was software emulation rather than hardware B/C so I eventually decided to just get a ps2) and it was very useful in that regard, but I can see myself using it in the future just for backing up saves by putting them on a ps3, or if I run out of room and just want to throw older saves there to free up space on a memory card (even though by now I have probably more than a half dozen PS2 memory cards). I got an official sony adapter (just comes with the blocky looking adapter itself, but plugs into the console using the same cable that you would use to charge a controller) from either ebay or amazon (don't remember which) and it was only about $15.
